PROJECT OVERVIEW

"Exploration is in our nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still. We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean. We are ready at last to set sail for the stars."

- Carl Sagan

4X / Grand Strategy / RPG / Simulator / CMS

Glorious Dawn is a "Space Opera Simulator" being developed by the team at Big Owl Interactive. A highly ambitious, highly long term project, we hope to follow in the footsteps of games like Stellaris and Dwarf Fortress to create an all-encompassing, engaging Sci-Fi game based on the cosmos you create and the stories you tell in it. In the most basic sense our game strives to be the Sci-Fi sandbox upon which you can build a universe of your own. Take command of a stellar civilization and shape an ever-changing galaxy to your liking. Form alliances, fight wars, study the darkest secrets of the universe, or just set out and explore the stars that hang suspended around you.

Development on this project has halted for the time being, but we intend to continue working on it in the future.

CURRENT VERSION

Version 0.0 Copernicus
"What indeed is more beautiful than heaven, which of course contains all things of beauty."

- Nicolaus Copernicus

Version 0.0, or Copernicus as we are calling it, stands as the first version of Glorious Dawn that we at Big Owl Interactive have deemed feature complete enough to officially release.

The majority of the work spent on the project in the two months of its existence has been back-end development and research (lots and lots of research). The release of Version 0.0,  then,  is in no way a representation of the final game. It is rather a demonstration of our vision, and a promise that we are committed to making Glorious Dawn a reality.

Current Features of the Project

  • Two menus for generating galaxies
    • The "simple" menu uses abstracted yet more accessible inputs
    •  The "advanced" menu has direct access to galaxy generation's back-end variables
  • Scientifically accurate galactic distribution of solar mass, based on peer reviewed journals
  • Scientifically accurate (as close as we can anyways) equations for calculating the solar radius, surface area, surface temperature, black body color temperature, luminosity, phase, and spectral class.
  • The ability to generate a star at all major points of it's life cycle:
    • Main sequence, Giant, Stellar remnant (White Dwarf, Neutron Star, Black Hole)
  • Name generation capable of forming unique names for stars, galaxies, events, places and objects
  • Unique constructed languages formed from procedurally generated syllabaries
  • In-game documentation detailing information on the various aspects of the game
  • First iteration of our head artist's user interface assets
  • A few of the tracks from the amazing score being composed for Glorious Dawn

We hope that you enjoy this first look at our project and stay tuned for a more glorious dawn awaits.

Hello, just checking back in, what's going on? There hasn't been a weekly update in over half a year!

You have my attention! I was looking for an interesting in development 4x game, and after checking out the generator, I'm going to keep an eye on this game. Keep up what you're doing, I can't wait for when it becomes a game!
